Baker University – Both Baker Bowling Teams Finish Second to Begin Season at Midland Warrior Open

OMAHA, Neb. – This past weekend the Baker bowling teams kicked off the 2021-22 season as they traveled to Omaha, Neb., to compete in the Midland Warrior Open.

The men were able to put together a strong day, posting a Baker total of 4,032 and a team total of 5,125 to compile an overall total of 9,157 to finish in first place in the qualifying round. Baker then lost to Iowa Western in the finals of bracket play to finish second in match play.

The Wildcats were very consistent on the men’s side as all five bowlers finished inside the top-17. Matthew Carpenter led the way for Baker, finishing in seventh place with a tournament average of 211.2. His best game came in game five, when he bowled a 238.

Hunter Ellenburg and Tanner Eckerle finished ninth and 10th respectively with tournament averages of 206.6 and 206.2. Zachery Brehm was not far behind in 13th, while teammate Dillon Harris rounded out the tournament with a 17th place finish. Brehm had a tournament average of 202.6, and Harris had an average of 198.4.

On the women’s side, the Wildcats put together a team total of 4,718 and a Baker total of 3,636 for an overall total of 8,354 to qualify for bracket play in third place. Baker then buckled down to work their way through the bracket, eventually falling to Grand View, 3-2 to finish second in match play.

Caitlin Lucas was the top-finisher for the Wildcats, finishing in second place and earning All-Tournament honors. Lucas bowled an average of 207 on the tournament, with her best game coming in game four with a 237.

Kristina Harris also earned All-Tournament honors over the weekend, finishing in fifth place for the Wildcats. Harris bowled an average of 195.2, and her best game came in game five with a 220.

Hailee McCormick was the third highest finisher for Baker as she took ninth place individually with an average of 191.8. Allayna Bell was able to stay inside the top-15 as she finished 13th in the tournament with an average score of 189.2.

Both Baker bowling teams will now be back in action on Oct. 16-17, when they travel to Wichita, Kan., to compete in the Mid States Championships.
