Hailey Howard Takes First Place As Women Qualify First, Men Third at Kohawk Invitational

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – In a huge weekend for the Wildcats, Hailey Howard took home first place individually as the women qualified for bracket play in first place and the men qualified in third place.

The women started out strong and were able to post an overall total as a team of 8,245 to finish in first place heading into bracket play. In the first round of bracket play, the Wildcats took the first game, 173-167 over Calumet, but then dropped the next two, 177-162 and 152-146 to end the tournament for the Wildcats.

Individually, Hailey Howard had a huge tournament for the Wildcats, bowling an average of 229.2 to finish in first place in the tournament. Her best game came in game one, when she bowled a 277. After a 190 in game two, she finished with a 223, 224 and 232.

Emily Stamper was able to take 10th place individually with an average of 206.2, while Kristina Harris and Caitlin Lucas finished 12th and 13th with averages of 205.8 and 204.8.

The men had a great tournament as well, bowling an overall total of 7,938, to qualify third for bracket play behind just Mount Mercy and St. Ambrose. The Wildcats were able to upset No. 2 Mount Mercy in the first round, but then lost to No. 1 St. Ambrose in the next round.

Individually, Tanner Eckerle led the way for the Wildcats, finishing 28th with an average of 198.8, while teammate Matthew Carpenter finished 29th with an average of 197.2. Eckerle’s best game came in game one with a 277, while Carpenter’s best game was game three with a 228.

Both Baker bowling teams will be back in action on Feb. 12-13, when they host the Baker Challenge in both Lawrence, Kan., and Topeka, Kan.
