Fraticelli Headlines Bowling's ECC All-Conference Selections With Rookie of the Year Honor

West Babylon, N.Y. – After being labeled the ECC Rookie of the Week four times this season, Adelphi University sophomore bowler Blanca Fraticelli was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year on Friday.

In her first season competing on the collegiate stage, Fraticelli outperformed 85.3 percent of bowlers in the conference.

In the traditional format alone, Fraticelli not only led her team, but sat among the Top 5 in the ECC in nearly every statistical category. Most notably, Fraticelli averaged 8.94 pins (third-best) on her first ball and placed third in the league in fill percentage (81.9) and split-conversion rate (27.3).

A Second Team All-ECC performer, Fraticelli bowled the team’s highest traditional frame average (192.5) since the 2017-18 season. She threw almost half of those shots for strikes and converted 87.5 percent of her traditional single-pin spares.

Kristen Derr came on strong late in the season and accompanied Fraticelli on the All-ECC Second Team. In two of her last three tournaments leading into the ECC Championship, Derr was named to the All-Tournament Team.

For the year, Derr finished just ahead of Fraticelli in overall single-pin spare percentage (87.7), which included an outstanding 91.9 percent mark in the Baker format. She also posted the fourth-highest overall spare-conversion rate in the ECC at 67.5 percent.

Megan Wehmeier made her way back on the ECC All-Conference Team with a Third Team All-ECC honor in 2021-22.

In her post-pandemic return to the lanes, Wehmeier received Most Valuable Player honors at the Sacred Heart University Bowl for a Cure. Her team-leading 189.1 Baker average ranked seventh in the conference.

She did most of her damage though in the final frame this season, when the Lawton, Okla. native paced her team with an 18.98 frame average and 82.7 percent fill rate as the team’s primary anchor bowler.
