Augie Bowling earns NTCA All-Academic Team Award


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Augustana Vikings women’s bowling team has been recognized as a recipient of the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Academic Team Award, the organization announced Wednesday morning.

The NTCA recognizes NCAA bowling teams that excel academically each year. Programs must have a cumulative team GPA of a 3.2 or higher for the academic school year and be a current member of the NTCA. A total of 52 bowling programs achieved a cumulative team GPA of 3.2 this past season.

Augustana makes the list with a team GPA of 3.460 and ranks 26th highest across all NCAA divisions. The Vikings also are the second-highest NCAA DIII school in the country, coming behind only fellow CCIW school Marian.

Seven Vikings were also recognized on an individual level. The NTCA recognizes student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom throughout the academic year. This year there are 397 honorees, representing NCAA bowling programs at 67 schools. A student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher for the academic school year to qualify for this award. This following honorees are from this year’s Augie team:

Niah Tyler; Freshman East Moline, IL Geology
