Saints Have Third-Place Showing to Start Season at RU Warrior Classic


Waterford Township, Mich. – The Aquinas men’s bowling squad started off its season strong with a third-place finish at the Rochester University Warrior Classic today (Sept. 24). The Saints put together a 7,212-pin performance at Three Hundred Bowl, trailing only Concordia (7,497 pins) and Lawrence Tech (7,343 pins). Spring Arbor and UM-Dearborn rounded out the top five teams with scores of 7,025 and 6,973 pins, respectively.

James Ruoff was the best bowler today for the Saints with an eighth-place finish after a five-game score of 1,008 pins. He bowled games of 215, 170, 191, 189, and 243 for an average of 201.6 pins per game.

Abery Thomas III also had a great day with a cumulative score of 955, good for 14th place on the leaderboard. He scored 145, 256, 182, 203, and 169 for an average of 191 pins over his five games.

Michael Deming scored 147, 181, 201, 170, and 248 over his five games to earn himself an average of 189.4 pins per game. Deming concluded the RU Warrior Classic in 16th place with a total score of 947.

Jonathan Garland also placed inside the top-20 with a 19th place finish thanks to a five-game score of 929. Garland bowled a 195, 194, 171, 182, and 187 in his five games, good for an average of 185.8 pins per game.

Brandon Foster finished in 41st after a three-game total of 582 pins. He scored a 208, 207, and 168 in his three games, averaging 194 pins per game.

Dylan Vermilyea and Riley Devereaux both made an appearance for one game in their first collegiate tournament. Vermilyea scored a 185 and Devereaux scored a 176 in their respective games.

Aquinas returns to action in two weeks (Oct. 8) for the first WHAC jamboree of the season. The event will be hosted by Lawrence Tech and will be played at Five Star Lanes in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
