Bowling Tunes Up for Dezy at Season-Opening SHU Bowl for the Cure

Fairfield, Conn. – With the second-annual DezyStrong Classic on the horizon, the Adelphi University women’s bowling team returned to the Sacred Heart University Bowl for the Cure in Fairfield this weekend to open the 2022-23 campaign.

While the Panthers were defending their Baker and traditional tournament trophies from a season ago, Adelphi managed a 4-5 start on the heels of a second-place finish in the Baker competition.

The Brown and Gold started off Baker play with a tournament-high 952 series against Caldwell University and later posted a convincing 837-794 victory over No. 22 Long Island University.

Reigning ECC All-Conference bowler Kristen Derr was very much in form, averaging a team-leading 189.0 in both tournaments. She finished among the Top 10 bowlers in the traditional field and led the ‘Cats with a 78.0 percent fill rate in the Baker tournament.

In her collegiate debut, Madison Mosley obtained a mark on a team-high 82.0 percent of her throws in the traditional competition. The freshman made 31 total spares in traditional matches, with exceptional conversion rates of 90.9 percent on makeable tries and 94.7 percent on single-pin attempts.

Head Coach Dennis Kearney‘s Adelphi squad is set to welcome in some of the nation’s most elite bowling programs for the 2022 DezyStrong Classic next weekend (Oct. 28-30) in Coram, N.Y. at Coram Country Lanes.
