Attacking the lanes for the third straight weekend, the Barton Community College men’s bowling team posted solid results at the 14th Annual Hammer Lions Classic held at the Plaza Lanes in St. Charles, Missouri.

Entered as the lone NJCAA program, the Cougars stood in fifth place of the eight-team field at the conclusion of Saturday’s three individual team games and 20-baker games. Barton sustained their spot in Sunday’s final action clinching the fifth seed.

Entering bracket play the Cougars had a sluggish start dropping its opening match to Drury University in straight games. Rebounding with vengeance Barton rattled off three straight victories before bowing out to eventual champions Lindenwood University dropping a decisive third game.

Securing the team tournament title was McKendree University totaling a tournament high pin count of 6,826 edging out host Lindenwood University’s 6,749 total. Claiming the bracket title was Lindenwood edging out third seeded Missouri Baptist in the best of five games.

Aidan VanMetre piloted the Cougars individually earning a third-place finish landing on the All-Tournament Team in the field of 86-participants. Blasting down a team high 638 in three tossed games averaging 212.7 per 10-frames, Vanmetre finished over the 200-mark in all three games posting his highest round of 213 in the second game.

Griffin Peterson nearly collected a top-10 performance carding a 14th best 561 score. The sophomore tossed the Cougars top single game score of 255 in the opener of his three games bowled.

Bryce Moore turned in a 33rd place 515 score while V-Thoon Thanasouk and Oscar Rubio conducted a 36th and 64th finish.

Fielding a junior varsity team, Alex Flinn led the Cougars second entered team with a 30th best score of 519 edging out Caleb Carr‘s 40th place score of 483.

Nearly posting a top-10 performance was Griffin Peterson earning a 14th  outside the top-10 was Griffin Peterson‘s 14th place finish 561

Barton will be right back in action next weekend for the two-day event at the Jayhawk Challenge held at Royal Crest Lanes in Lawrence, KS.
