Huskers Finish Fourth at Bearcat Roto Grip Open


Fairview Heights, Ill. – The Nebraska bowling team took home fourth place at the 2022 Bearcat Roto Grip Open.  

The Huskers started Sunday’s play with one traditional match, defeating Maryville (1,171-1,029). The combined total pinfall from this traditional match as well as Friday’s and Saturday’s matches sent the Big Red to the championship bracket as the second seed. 

Nebraska started strong with a first-game win (247-236), before Mercyhurst battled back to claim the following four games (214-235), (173-216), (170-183) and (181-194). The Big Red then moved to compete for the third-place spot against No. 1 McKendree.  

The Huskers and Bearcats battled all seven rounds with McKendree claiming the third-place position. The Huskers fell in the first two games against McKendree (170-226) and (184-193). NU then came back strong with two wins in game three (192-191) and four (224-216). McKendree came back in game five, winning 207-233. The Huskers then claimed game six (179-145), but McKendree closed out the seventh game (199-247) to claim the third-place finish. 

Nebraska finished 7-3 overall at the tournament with a total pinfall of 10,904, good for fourth place. 

Freshman Jillian Martin (219.50 average) took second in the individual portion of the event, while senior Kendyl Hofmeister followed closely in the top rankings receiving sixth overall with an average of 210.83.  

Up next, Nebraska returns to the lanes Nov. 4-6 at the Track Kat Klash in Houston Texas.
