CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Augie women’s bowling traveled to the 5 Seasons Classic hosted by Mount Mercy over the weekend, finishing ninth out of 12 teams in attendance.
The Vikings competed in a traditional format to open the weekend, drawing a lot of success on an individual level. Augie rolled a 10-frame high of 855 in the tournament and turned in additional scores of 843, 789, 785, 733 to total 4005. The Vikings moved past Hawkeye Community College, but lost to the other four teams they faced.
Madelyn Lathrop was the team’s top performer on Saturday, rolling a high of 192 and averaging a 170. Lathrop placed 39th individually out of 116 bowlers present.
Behind Lathrop was Samantha Novak, who placed 43rd and averaged a 167. Novak rolled a high of 201 and was the only Viking on Saturday to exceed the 200 mark.
Two other traditional format highlights for Augie came via Rose Klinger, who rolled back-to-back games of 198 and 193, and Delaney Walsh who posted a high of 191.
Augie salvaged their weekend in Baker format, rolling into the Vikings record books after averaging a tournament-high 178.7, breaking the previous mark of 178.4. The Baker score of 774 was the Viking’s best on the weekend and left them a mere eight pins from setting an Augie single-game record.
The Vikings finished third in Baker scoring, boasting a 3574 and tallying the program’s 100th victory.
Augie will be back in action at the Leatherneck Classic on November 12-13. The competition will be held at Highland Park Bowl in Moline, Ill.
