Bowie State Women’s Bowling Picked to Repeat as CIAA Champions


CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the fourth consecutive season, the Bowie State University women’s bowling program was picked to win the 2022-23 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship voted by the CIAA Bowling Coaches Associations and the Sports Information Directors Association announced on Wednesday.

The now six-time CIAA champion Bulldogs claimed the Northern Division title with a 35-4 conference record (26-1 in division play) led by head coach Andrew Campbell. Behind the Bulldogs was Fayetteville State and Johnson C. Smith whom were voted second and third, respectively.

The preseason All-CIAA bowling team is highlighted by 2022 CIAA Player and Rookie of the Year Carrington Hayward from Livingstone. Hayward finished with the highest scoring average within the CIAA (183.69 pins per match) last year. Fayetteville State recorded three spots on the list and Johnson C. Smith added four spots. Senior Olivia Watts (Fort Washington, MD) of Bowie State who placed within the top 15. Some new faces to add to the list, Ashley Sharpe from Virginia Union, who placed 15th in the 2022 CIAA Bowling Championship last March.

Bowie State concluded the 2021-22 season with a 49-17 record while becoming the most winningest program in conference history with 10 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championships.
