Bulldogs Start Season at Sixth Annual VUU Invitational

BOWIE, Md. – The six-time Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Champions Bowie State women’s bowling team will begin the 2022-23 season this weekend, competing at the sixth annual Virginia Union Invitational Tournament on Friday, Nov. 4 through Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Bowl America located on Hull Street Road in Richmond, Va.

“The Virginia Union Invitational will be a test for the Bulldogs going against DI and DII schools and test their abilities for adjustments,” said head coach Andrew Campbell. “Coach Diamond Carter and myself will be keeping notes so that we will be ready for the CIAA Event I next weekend in Raleigh, N.C.”

Captains Paris Anthony (Waldorf, MD) and Chalia Gray (Glen Burnie, MD) will lead the Bulldogs this season. In total, Bowie State returns five bowlers from the last year’s championship squad highlighted by Olivia Watts (Fort Washington, MD) who finished top-15 in the CIAA in 2021-22. The Bulldogs welcome one newcomer in freshman Jessica Watts (Fort Washington, MD) whom happens to be the younger sister of Watts.

Competition begins Friday morning at 11 a.m. with five-game Baker matches, followed by five traditional matches on Saturday morning, beginning at 9:40 a.m. Combined results from Friday and Saturday will determine the seedlings for Sunday’s bracket-play championship tournament, where each team will play three rounds of traditional matches beginning at 9:30 a.m.
