Blanchard and Wicker Sweep WHAC Bowling Honors


The AQ men’s and women’s bowling teams competed in their third respective American Heartland Bowling Association (AHBA) tournament this past weekend (Dec. 3). The men’s team finished fourth of 16 teams while the women had their best ABHA performance yet, finishing fifth out of ten teams. In addition, the men’s team bowled a perfect 300 baker game for the first time in recorded history of the program.

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference announced its players of week today (Dec. 5) to recognize the efforts of athletes across the league over the past week. Jack Wicker and Carley Blanchard were named the men’s and women’s bowlers of the week to recognize their individual contributions towards the success of their respective teams.

Wicker placed third at the tournament down in Fort Wayne, Indiana this weekend after averaging 222.25 pins per game over the four games that he played. His four-game pin total of 889 pins was just nine pins behind the leader at the tournament.

He has been solid for the Saints this season, especially in the AHBA events. He bowled five games at the first event for a total of 1,036 pins, good for an average 207.2 pins per game. He would bowl two games the following day, scoring 217 and 202 in those two games. His performance this past week is his first top ten result of the season.

This is the first time in his career that Wicker has need named Men’s Bowler of the Week.

Blanchard continued to perform well at the AHBA tournament as well, picking up her third top-ten performance of the season and her first top-five result as well. She finished fourth at the AHBA tournament with a four-game pin total of 799 pins. She bowled a 190, 184, 182, and 243 over her four games to average 199.75 pins per game.

Her other top performances of the season include her eighth place finish at the Cornerstone Classic and her eighth place finish at the second AHBA tournament of the season. She averaged 180.4 pins per game at the Cornerstone Classic with a high-game of 207. She bowled an average of 201 pins per game with a high-game of 235 pins at the second AHBA tournament.

This is also the first time that Blanchard has been awarded with the Women’s WHAC Bowler of the Week award.

Both the men’s and the women’s team are back in action one more time before Christmas break next Saturday (Dec. 10). The two teams will be competing…
