Red Wolves Begin Spring Schedule at Northeast Classic

DEPTFORD, N.J. (1/20/23) – Hitting the lanes for the first time in the spring schedule, the Arkansas State women’s bowling team is sixth among 33 teams at the Northeast Classic hosted by Sacred Heart.

A-State (24-9) shrugged off a slow start in the opening Baker match and finished the day 4-1. With 5,018 total pinfall, the Red Wolves are sixth behind leader Vanderbilt. McKendree is second followed by Youngstown State, Stephen F. Austin and Nebraska.

The Red Wolves dropped the opener 942-892 against Maryland-Eastern Shore, but came back with four consecutive Baker wins to close the day 4-1. A-State defeated North Carolina A&T (1034-970), Monmouth (1080-913), Delaware State (1018-908) and Merrimack (994-984).

The Red Wolves were boosted by the return of Faith Welch to the lineup. Welch missed the fall campaign due to injury, but bowled in the second and third Baker matches Friday.

Five traditional matches are on tap Saturday ahead of bracket play Sunday. For the latest on A-State bowling, follow the team on Twitter (@AStateBowling), Facebook (/AStateBowling) and Instagram (@redwolvesbowling).
