A-State Finishes Seventh at Northeast Classic


DEPTFORD, N.J. (1/22/23) – Two Baker match play victories over North Carolina A&T helped the Arkansas State women’s bowling team to a seventh-place finish at the Northeast Classic hosted by Sacred Heart University.

In the opener of bracket play Sunday, A-State (30-11) battled to the 4-3 victory in the seven-game series that went the distance. The Red Wolves took the first two games, 268-155 and 203-193, but North Carolina A&T bounced back to even it going into game five, 226-185 and 211-178. A-State edged the Aggies 187-183 in game five to lead the series 3-2, but North Carolina A&T forced the decisive game seven with a 203-173 decision in game six. The Red Wolves edged out a 211-207 victory in game seven to take the series 4-3.

A-State took on Youngstown State next and the Penguins came away with a 4-3 decision in the series. The Red Wolves dropped each of the first three games, but were able to force game seven pulling off wins in game four (218-200), five (236-179) and six (216-172). Youngstown State rolled a 232 in game seven to seal the victory over A-State.

The Red Wolves met North Carolina A&T once more in the seventh-place contest and it took six games for A-State to clinch the match. A-State took the first two games, 202-180 and 245-201, but the Aggies took game three 238-197. The Red Wolves took game four 211-192, but North Carolina A&T forced game six with a 222-181 tally in game five. A-State downed 217 pins in game six to edge the Aggies by 24 and clinch seventh place.

Nebraska edged Vanderbilt in the championship match while Stephen F. Austin topped McKendree for third and Youngstown State downed Maryville for fifth.
