Augie achieves record-breaking Baker success at Peacock Classic

WATERLOO, Iowa – The Augustana women’s bowling team traveled to Iowa over the weekend for the Peacock Classic, a three-day competition hosted by Upper Iowa University at the Cadillac Xtreme Bowling Center. The Vikings placed sixth out of nine teams in attendance and posted a collective pin total of 11,259.

Augie began Friday with Baker format, highlighted by a record-breaking 254 pinfall from the team in their opening match. The pin total breaks the Baker high game record of 253, which was set on January 9, 2020, at the Midwest Classic. The Vikings dropped 4,166 pins across their five matches, one pin above their season average.

The Vikings continued to find success in traditional format on Saturday, rolling 30 pins above their season average, with an 848 mark. In addition, several career-high marks were reached, led by Samantha Novak and her 967-pin series. Novak’s performance was boosted by a 211-pin frame, a varsity high for the junior roller. Sarah Stevanovic also had a stellar day two, rolling a single-game high of 220 to add to her 924-pin, five-game series, both career highs. Another top contributor for the Vikings on Saturday was Rose Klinger, who knocked down a season-high 216 pins in her fourth match of the afternoon.

Sunday’s bracket-style competition saw the Vikings slotted into the sixth seed, the same position they eventually closed the tournament. Seeding was achieved based on total pinfall across the opening two days of matches. Augie opened with a seven-game series against Quincy, dropping the matchup 4-3. In the lower bracket, The Vikings immediately flipped the page, securing a 21-pin victory over the Elmhurst Bluejays in their final match. In their battle for a fifth/sixth place finish, Augie closed their bracket with a rematch against Quincy. After enduring a hot start from the Hawks in the five-game series, the Vikings bowed out of the tournament in sixth place.

Augustana will travel to Bloomington for the CCIW Illinois Faceoff, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan, on February 4. The competition will be held at Pheasant Lanes and can be streamed here.
