Red Wolves Beat Five Top-20 Teams in Opening Day of Prairie View Invitational


ARLINGTON, Texas (1/27/23) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team went 5-0 in the opening day of the Prairie View Invitational with all five foes ranked in the top 20 of the latest National TenPin Coaches Association (NTCA) Power Index.

With the five victories Friday, A-State (35-11) picked up wins over each of the top three in the NTCA Power Index. The Red Wolves opened with a 926-925 win over No. 1 McKendree and followed with a 1,019-867 margin against No. 12 Fairleigh Dickinson. No. 3 Vanderbilt was next on the Baker match schedule and the Red Wolves topped the Commodores 1,048-1,042. A-State moved to 4-0 on the day with a 1,036-917 win over No. 20 Mount St. Marys and closed out the day with a 945-909 pinfall against No. 2 North Carolina A&T.

A-State is fifth among the 12 teams in the field with 4,974 pins after the five Baker matches, an average of 199.0. Vanderbilt leads with 5,214 pins followed by Nebraska (5,152), Stephen F. Austin (5,098) and McKendree (5,096). The Red Wolves face Stephen F. Austin, Prairie View A&M, Louisiana Tech, Youngstown State and Nebraska in traditional matches Saturday.
