BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State women’s bowling program went 8-4 during the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up hosted by Fayetteville State Feb. 17-19. The event was the first time this season that the Bulldogs competed against Southern Division opponents.
This was the first time Bowie State suffered losses against conference opponents this season. On Friday (Feb. 17), the Bulldogs fell to Shaw (687-707) and then to Fayetteville State (834-1007) but was able to close out the day with a pair of wins over Johnson C. Smith (847-681) and Livingstone (730-590). Junior Chalia Gray would lead the Bulldogs with 728 pins that included a high of 228 (vs. JCSU) while graduate senior Paris Anthony tallied 708 on the day including a 208 spin during game two (vs. FSU).
Day two, things picked up for the Bulldogs led by Gray who compiled three 200+ games. She would record a weekend-best 228 versus Livingstone as BSU finished 3-1, defeating LC (891-673), JCSU (770-684) and Shaw (917-676). The Bulldogs lone loss came against the Lady Broncos by a score of 876-986.
The Bulldogs picked up three wins during the Baker’s round, rolling to a 1012-590 win over the Lady Blue Bears of LC to start the day. Against the Golden Bulls, BSU had two players post 200+ games in route to a 922-758 win but dropped an 886-937 decision Fayetteville State. The Bulldogs capped off the weekend with an 816-713 victory against Shaw to conclude the round up. BSU combined for one 1000-point match during Bakers.
Senior Olivia Watts (233) and Gray (228) ranked top-10 for the top-200 scorers individually. Watts 233 game came against Livingstone (Feb. 18).
