Red Wolves 5-0 to Begin Music City Classic


SMYRNA, Tenn. (3/17/23) – The fourth-ranked Arkansas State women’s bowling team went 5-0 to begin competition at the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt at the Smyrna Bowling Center.

A-State (68-27), coming off an 11-1 performance at the Big Red Invite, has now won nine-straight matches. The Red Wolves opened the day going to a tiebreaker with Emmanuel College deadlocked with 915 pins each and proceeded to win the tiebreak 127-74. Stephen F. Austin was next on the Baker schedule and A-State won by 14 pins, 920-906 to move to 2-0. The Red Wolves closed out the day with over 1,000 pins in the final three contests; winning 1,017-973 over North Carolina A&T, 1,012-771 against Long Island University and 1,026-860 over Marian.

Heading into day two, the Red Wolves are eighth in the 30-team field with a total pinfall of 4,890. Host Vanderbilt leads with 5,437 pins followed by Louisiana Tech (5,201), McKendree (5,146), Sam Houston (5,087), Youngstown State (5,024), Maryland-Eastern Shore (4,922) and Maryville (4,920).

Five traditional play matches are on the schedule beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday ahead of three Baker best-of-seven bracket matches Sunday. All matches are streamed live on the A-State bowling facebook page (/AStateBowling).
