SALEM, Va. – The No. 2 Bowie State Bulldogs ended the 2023 season as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) runner-ups after falling to the top-seed Fayetteville State Broncos in the title match of the 2023 CIAA Bowling Championship at AMF Lee-Hi Lanes.
The loss snapped the Bulldogs championship win streak at six. In fact, the last six conference championships have featured Bowie State and Fayetteville State.
Day one, the Bulldogs had defeated Livingstone 1001-824 in the opening round to advance. Day two featured Baker match play and BSU claimed a 4-2 win against Johnson C. Smith in the best of seven but fell to Fayetteville State 4-0 in round three which put BSU into the losers bracket. In the losers bracket, Bowie State swept Shaw (4-0) in round five to face FSU in a rematch with the championship on the line. Fayetteville State would sweep Bowie State by scores of 177-161, 191-154, 175-146, and 192-163 for the 4-0 win.
The Bulldogs conclude the 2023 season as runner up champions while Shaw earned a third place honor.
