Women's bowling earns sixth in season-opening tournament


MADISON, Wis. – The Augustana Vikings women’s bowling team traveled north on Friday to compete in the Warhawk Classic three-day tournament hosted by UW-Whitewater, placing sixth out of eight teams.
 
Augustana brought eight bowlers to Dream Lanes for the opening-season competition, placing ahead of two CCIW teams, Elmhurst and Carroll.
 
The Vikings started the season off strong with a team traditional average of 845 and a team baker average of 173.3, improving from last season’s team averages of 827 traditional and 167 Baker. 
 
Madelyn Lathrop was Augie’s highest placer in the classic finishing 18th of 55 with a game average of 170.86 in her seven traditional games. Rose Klinger completed a game-high score of 220 and average of 185.6 in five of seven traditional matches. Klinger rolled two games over 200, joining Lathrop and Sarah Stevanovic, who cashed in 203. Augustana contributed other large outcomes from Delaney Walsh with 195 and 191, and Samantha Olson with 184.
 
Cassie Kontos had a strong debut leading the team with single-pin spares at 85.7 percent. Stevanovic also led the team in multiple-pin makeable spares with 65.2 percent and was the top frame filler combined with spares and strikes with 77.1 percent. Other leaders for the Vikings were Klinger, who was the leading striker with 37.1percent, and Lathrop who rolled a team-high 50 strikes over the weekend. 
 
Walsh, Lathrop, and Stevanovic were the three Vikings to complete every frame, while Olson was close behind achieving 64 percent of her frames. 
 
Cami Flores recorded a strike in one of her three attempts and Audrey Bezella displayed a strike in her only pursuit.
 
The Augustana Vikings women’s bowling team will travel to Cedar Rapids on October 28-29 for the 5 Seasons Classic hosted by Mount Mercy.
