Women’s bowling collects 6th at 5 Seasons Classic


CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Augustana Vikings women’s bowling team attended the 5 Seasons Classic hosted by Mount Mercy this weekend, finishing sixth of 14 teams.
 
The Vikings concluded the two-day event with a 6-4 record, with a win over Quincy, Wartburg, Coe, Luther, Hawkeye Community College, and Clarke. One of the team’s losses vs. Grand View came by just two points.
 
Madelyn Lathrop was the highest individual for the Vikings placing 34th out of the 116 participants with an average of 180. Lathrop also rolled a grand total of 900 points in her five games bowled. For the weekend, the Vikings were 82.2 percent on their single pins, with Lathrop leading the charge going 92 percent on the weekend.
 
Other top performers for Augustana were Delaney Walsh who was 36th and averaged 179.2, Sarah Stevanovic with an average of 172.4 and was 43rd, and Samantha Novak in 53rd with a 162.2 average.
 
In traditional format, the Vikings averaged 868.8, another increase from the weekend as they were up 10 pins. High games were 192 from Rose Klinger, Walsh with 191, Novak with 190, Stevanovic, and Lathrop with a clean 224.
 
Klinger continued to lead the team in strikes by setting a new single-event record striking 51.1 percent of the time, with an impressive 60 percent strike rate during Sunday’s Baker format. Another record for the Vikings is that they averaged 182.6 in Baker play, breaking the previous of 179. The Vikings also tied their record for clean games in Baker format for a single event, recording three clean games on Sunday.
 
Baker highs over the weekend were 205, 205, 210, 211, and 245.
 
The Augustana Vikings women’s bowling team will be back in action November 11-12 for the Leatherneck Classic. The event will be held at TBK Sports Complex in Bettendorf, Iowa.
