Spartan Athletics and AU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Conducting Food Drive

The “Cans Across Conference” is a friendly competition organized by the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC), where conference members strive to collect the most canned food and non-perishable items. This initiative, started in 2006, has been a collaborative effort by the NACC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to make a positive impact in each institution’s respective community. SAAC coordinates this annual canned food drive, turning it into a community service competition among the 13 institutions in the conference. Each campus’s SAAC collects cans and other non-perishable items to support a local charity.

As part of the 2023 campaign, Aurora University will contribute the collected items to the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry. In addition to food items, each one-dollar ($1) donated will be counted as two cans, and toiletries such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, and deodorant will also be accepted.

From October 22 to November 19, the Aurora University Athletic Department is honored to participate in the 18th annual “Cans Across Conference,” organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Each campus’s SAAC will be collecting cans and other non-perishable items to support a local charity. Drop-off locations are available in the Alumni Hall Lobby, Dunham Hall, Institute for Collaboration, and Spartan Athletic Wrestling Building.

In conjunction with “Cans Across the Conference,” the AU Athletic Department is excited to announce “Cans for Candy” on Saturday, November 4, during AU’s home football game against Lakeland University. Fans are encouraged to bring donations to the admissions area and, in return, will receive a special treat.

In the 2022 “Cans Across the Conference” competition, AU collected 194 items. This year, the Spartans are determined to collect 2,100 cans. Let’s join forces to make a significant impact!
