Bowling Runs Up Against Stiff Competition at UMES Hawk Classic

Woodbridge, Va. – As the ‘Cats now break for the holidays, the Adelphi University women’s bowling team first traveled to Woodbridge this past weekend for the 2023 Hawk Classic, hosted by University of Maryland Eastern Shore at Bowl America Woodbridge.

With numerous nationally-ranked teams in attendance, the Panthers rolled their first 1,000 series of the season to knock off No. 12 UMES by a 1,016-999 traditional scoreline.

Four of the team’s five starters bowled a 200 in the win, spearheaded by Blanca Fraticelli’s high game of 242.

Tiffany Wong, who led all Adelphi bowlers with a 198.6 traditional average, shot a 226. Giana Giampapa and Brianna Tringali exceeded the threshold with a 206 and 205, respectively.

Wong’s stellar start to an Adelphi career resumed over the weekend, with three 200 games. She averaged a season-high 9.18 pins on her first ball, and impressively converted half her traditional throws for strikes. As the team’s anchor bowler, Wong averaged a 223.3 in the 10th frame alone.

Wong also made more than three-quarters of her makeable spare attempts (19-of-25) over the weekend, converting 12-of-16 (75.0 percent) single-pin spares along the way.

Fraticelli posted just as exceptional numbers in the traditional competition, where she averaged a 192.3 and converted 25-of-30 (83.3 percent) makeable spares — including an 11-for-13 clip on single-pin tries.

Once the calendar flips to 2024, Arthur O’Connor and the Panthers will first travel to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Stormin’ Blue & White Vegas Classic at South Point Bowling Plaza.
