RALEIGH, NC — The Bowie State women’s bowling team concluded the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Event II 11-1 against Northern Division opponents over the past weekend. The CIAA Event II was hosted by Shaw University at the Stars and Strikes Bowling Center Friday, Jan. 26 through Sunday, Jan. 28.
The Bulldogs improve to 23-1 overall and within the CIAA.
How It Happened
Bowie State opened up the three-day event going a perfect 5-0 after defeating Virginia State (821-456, 722-469) and Virginia Union (834-686, 800-713) twice while earning a win over Elizabeth City State (800-662). Kamryn Smith rolled a 201 in the game versus Elizabeth City State while TaVera Johnson combined for a total pinfall of 857 with all five games with at least a 163.
The Bulldogs picked up where they left off on day two, finishing with a 4-0 record highlighted by another 200-game from Smith (vs. Elizabeth City State) and Johnson who tapped a day-high 213 game against Virginia Union. Johnson finished with 707 total pinfalls during day two as the Bulldogs biggest win came against Virginia State (822-472). Additionally, BSU claimed a pair of wins over ECSU twice (770-536, 757-585) and VUU (831-795).
Bowie State’s 21-match win-streak got snapped by Virginia Union during the Bakers on Sunday, falling 825-709 but the Bulldogs were able to bounce back with victories over the Lady Vikings (760-589) and the Trojans (723-426) to conclude the event.

The Bulldogs will return to action at the CIAA Round-Up on Feb. 23-25 in Midlothian, Va., hosted by Virginia Union.
