Alabama A&M Opens Play at SWAC East Round-Up


D’LBERVILLE, Miss.| The Alabama A&M University bowling team opened play at the SWAC East Round-Up on Friday at the Cypress Lanes in D’lberville, Miss.

Alabama A&M went 1-4 during Friday’s Round and enters Saturday in the seventh position tied with Florida A&M and Grambling State.

Alabama State finished the day 5-0 with victories over Jackson State, Florida A&M, AAMU, Texas Southern and Grambling State.

Texas Southern and Southern both posted 4-1 records, tying for second. Prairie View A&M and Jackson State concluded the first round with records of 2-3.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Alabama A&M began the day falling to Southern, 1,018-904, as Rose Ugbinada recorded a 216 pinfall.

-In the second matchup, the Bulldogs were defeated 870-854 by Grambling State, where Nila Dulcio tallied a 179 pinfall.

-After losing to Rival Alabama State (1,026-809), AAMU’s lone victory was (863-807) over Prairie View A&M.

-Alabama A&M closed out the opening round dropping the final match 960-905 to Jackson State.

-AAMU finished round one with three bowlers inside the Top 20.

-Ugbinada paced the Bulldogs, averaging 194.2 and finishing with 971 total pinfall, placing her 10th overall.

Montaya Walton finished round one 16th after a 927 total pinfall, while Dulcio is sitting in the 19th position, after posting an 875 pinfall.

Tamyra Long tallied a 490 pinfall after three matches, while Naryia Jackson finished with 450.

-Khia Shiffman-Ratliff recorded a 322, Megan Whorton and Alexis Orchard rounded out Alabama A&M at 168 and 132, respectively

 

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs return to the lanes on Saturday with the second day of the SWAC East Round-Up. Matches will begin at 10 a.m.
