AAMU Finishes 3rd at the SWAC East Round-Up

D’IBERVILLE, Miss. | The Alabama A&M University bowling team concluded the final round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) East Round-Up on Saturday with a third-place finish at the Cypress Lanes.

Alabama A&M went 4-0 during Sunday’s final round and finished third, with a 9-5 record.
Sophomore Rose Ugbinada was the lone AAMU bowler to earn SWAC postseason honors as she was selected to the second team.
Southern won its second consecutive SWAC regular season title after going 12-2. Alabama State finished second, posting a 10-4 record.

Texas Southern placed fourth (8-6), followed by Prairie View A&M (7-7), Jackson State (7-7), Grambling State (2-12) and Florida A&M (1-13).

  • Alabama A&M began the day defeating Prairie View A&M, 1,011-940, as Tamrya Long recorded a 223 pinfall
  • In the second matchup, the Bulldogs posted a 1,016-940 victory over Jackson State
  • Alabama A&M closed out the afternoon with victories over Texas Southern (923-843) and Florida A&M (880-696)
  • AAMU finished the tournament with three bowlers inside the Top 20
  • Rose Ugbinada paced the Bulldogs, averaging 194.1 and finishing with 2,718 total pinfall, placing her in 10th
  • Montaya Walton placed 11th, with a 2,704 total pinfall, while Nilia Dulcio is finished 15th after posting a 2,584 pinfall
  • Long tallied a 2,218 pinfall, while Nariya Jackson finished with a 2,131 pinfall
  • Khia Shiffman-Ratliff recorded a 322, while Megan Whorton and Alexis Orchard rounded out the team at 168 and 132, respectively

The Bulldogs return to the lanes on Friday for the Flyers Classic, hosted by Lewis University, at the Strike  N’ Spare in Lockport, Ill.
