AAMU Defeats JSU, Fall to Alabama State at SWAC Tourney


ARLINGTON, Texas | The Alabama A&M University women’s bowling team opened the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Bowling Championship on Friday by going 1-1 during bracket play at the International Bowling Training and Research Center (ITRC).
 

Alabama A&M, the third seed, defeated Jackson State, 2-1, in the first match of the day in advancing in the winner’s bracket. However, the Bulldogs fell, 2-0, to Alabama State, moving Alabama A&M into the elimination bracket.
 

The Bulldogs will meet Texas Southern, which fell to Prairie View A&M on Friday, in an elimination match at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The winner of that match will advance to face either Jackson State or Prairie View A&M at 1 p.m.
 
Individually, Narya Jackson led AAMU with a 213, while Tamyra Long tallied a 187 in the win over Jackson State. In the loss to the Hornets, Rose Ugbinada registered a team-high 193, while Jackson added a 179.
