GASTONIA, N.C. — Third-seeded Belmont Abbey posted a pair of upsets in improbable fashion Saturday to clinch a Conference Carolinas/Great Midwest Conference Women’s Bowling Championship berth for the second straight year, sending the top two seeds into the loser’s bracket.
Trailing 3-1 in its first match of the day, the Crusaders won three straight games, highlighted by a 181-156 victory in the decider. The hot streak continued into the winner’s bracket final as the Crusaders rolled 188 in the opener, then topped 200 three straight games to advance.
The final round starts at 8 a.m. at George Pappas Liberty Lanes in Gastonia. The teams will participate in a Mega-Match (two out of three – traditional, five Baker total pinfall and standard Baker match), followed by an additional standard Baker match if necessary.
