Bulldogs Turn in 9-2 Start at CIAA Event I


CARY, NC — The Bowie State women’s bowling team turned in a 9-2 record at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Event I hosted by Shaw University this past weekend at AMF Bowlero South Hills Lanes on Nov. 8-10.

How It Happened

The Bulldogs opened play on the first day going 5-0, defeating opponents Elizabeth City State twice (821-607, 721-648), Virginia State twice (820-572 and 774-578) and Virginia Union (803-657). TaVera Johnson spun a 201-game during the Bulldogs win over the Trojans in the first matchup on the day. 

BSU got off a 2-0 start during day two of the CIAA Event I, defeating both VUU (779-669) and VSU (729-612) led by a 246-game from Johnson but suffered back-to-back losses to ECSU (677-792) and the Lady Panthers (712-740) to close out the day 2-2. 

During Bakers, the Bulldogs bounced back to straight victories over Virginia Union (869-652) highlighted by a 210 game from Arianna Clayton. Against Virginia State, the rolled to a 663-590 win to conclude the weekend. 

Up Next

This weekend’s meet will be the lone event for the Bulldogs in 2024. Bowie State will return to action in the New Year with the CIAA Event II hosted by Virginia Union on Jan. 24-26.
