Caitlin Lucas Takes First Place as the Baker Women Bring Home Championship at Hoosier Classic

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. ā In their biggest tournament of the year, the Baker women’s bowling stepped up big time, taking first place out of 65 teams, while the men finished in 53rd place.
The Baker women posted a team total of 5,745 to qualify in sixth place heading into bracket play. In the round of eight, the Wildcats were able to sweep Davenport, 2-0 which set up a matchup with Webber International. Once again, Baker came away with a win, defeating Webber International, 2-1 to advance to the finals. Baker then ran away with the finals match as they defeated SCAD-Savannah, 3-0, to take home first place in the event.
Individually, the Wildcats had a huge performance from junior Caitlin Lucas. Lucas was able to bowl an average of 217 on the tournament including an incredible score of 290 in game two. Lucas’ performance was good enough for her to take home first place in the event, beating 478 other bowlers.
Baker’s next highest finisher was Emily Stamper who took 35th place, while teammate Hailey Howard finished 75th in the tournament.
On the men’s side, Baker was able to post a team total of 5,446 to finish in 53rd place as a team. The Wildcats finished just in front of Ottawa University who posted a team total of 5,444. Individually, Matthew Carpenter led the team as he averaged a score of 193.8 to finish 102nd in the tournament.
Both Baker bowling teams will now compete in the Heart of America Conference Championships on Feb. 26-27, in Des Moines, Iowa. The event will be hosted by Grand View University.
