NEW HAVEN, Conn. (August 2, 2022) — The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) announced Tuesday that it will sponsor the sport of women’s bowling as a championship event beginning in the upcoming 2022-23 season. The announcement was made by CACC Commissioner Dan Mara, as women’s bowling will become the 17th championship sport offered by the conference.
It marks the first time since 2018 the CACC will feature a new championship sport as that spring the league conducted its initial men’s lacrosse championship.
“We are proud to offer a new championship opportunity to the female student-athletes at member institutions in the CACC,” Mara said. “The CACC is looking forward to hosting its inaugural bowling championship in the same year that we celebrate 50 years of Title IX and its impact on women’s sports.”
Women’s Bowling is classified as a National Collegiate sport in the NCAA, as that level includes institutions from all three divisions in the national organization. Six institutions will comprise CACC Bowling for the inaugural season including Bloomfield College, Caldwell University, Chestnut Hill College, Felician University, Holy Family University and Wilmington University.
Both Caldwell and Wilmington have won a conference championship in their previous leagues and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Holy Family will be competing in bowling at the varsity level for the first time this season. Bloomfield, CHC and Felician have competed in the sport for the last several seasons.
The CACC will host a bowling championship the weekend of March 24-26, 2023, at a site to be determined. More information on the conference championship will be announced at a later date.
