GASTONIA, N.C. — Forced to the extra game after a down-to-the-wire decision in the Mega-Match, Belmont Abbey responded with a 4-0 sweep of Emmanuel in the best-of-seven Baker final to win the 2023 Conference Carolinas/Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Bowling Championship Sunday afternoon.
The top-seeded Crusaders won the individual portion of the Mega-Match, but the Lions evened the score at 1-1 with a sweep of the 5-game Baker total pinfall section. In the deciding best-of-seven Baker series, the teams alternated wins until the seventh game, when Emmanuel overcame a three-pin deficit after seven frames to force the extra match.
The title is the first for the Belmont Abbey Men’s Bowling program, which was started in 2016.
Tyler Michel and Connor Breaman were on the all-tournament team, while Caleb Huggins was the Tournament Most Valuable Player.
