Cummins Earns NCAA Scholarship – Vanderbilt University Athletics – Official Athletics Website

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt bowling’s Mabel Cummins has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship by the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee.

The Hermitage, Tennessee, native earned her degree in neuroscience as part of the Class of 2023. Cummins, a five-time Dean’s List member, was captain of the bowling team from 2021 to 2023. During her college career, she was named an NCAA All-American three times and an All-Southland bowler four times.

From freshman to senior year, Cummins has been a foundational part of the team, serving as a starter all four years, including key leadoff and anchor roles. In the past three seasons, Cummins earned Southland Bowling League Bowler of the Month at least once each year.

Apart from her career as a Dore, Cummins has represented our country as a U.S. National Team member and has competed in USA trials and in the World Championships.

Cummins spent her time away from the lanes participating in service and career development activities to prepare herself for postgraduate life. She held leadership roles within the Vanderbilt Undergraduate Honor Council and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Additionally, she served as a youth league coach for the United States Bowling Congress and was a member and captain of the USBC team.

As a neuroscience major, Cummins had the opportunity to volunteer with the Vanderbilt ER/LifeFlight. She was also a research assistant and project leader with the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Department of Anesthesiology and was a lead research assistant with the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing Ph.D. in Nursing Science program.

Cummins has been accepted into Vanderbilt’s master’s program for biomedical science and will start in the fall.
