EDINBURG, Scotland — Incoming freshman bowler Nicholas Adams traveled to Scotland July 14-23 as part of a US team to compete in multiple tournaments in Edinburgh, Murrayfield, and Ayr.
After missing medals in Edinburgh in team and baker doubles in Edinburgh, he found his swing the next day at the Murrayfield indoor sports club and took the Bronze in mixed baker doubles.
After touring northern Scotland for a few days, he laced them back up in the prestigious Scottish Open singles Championship. This tournament was at LA Bowl in Ayr, Scotland, and included the top bowlers from Scotland, England, and the Team representing the USA.
After the over 130 bowlers initial eight games of qualifying, Adams averaged 191, was in the 23rd position, and made the initial cut of the top 32.
The top 4 received a double bye, and 5-8 received a single bye. The remaining 24 (9-32) bowled four more games to cut to the top 12.
Adams averaged 199 (796 for four games), missing the top 12 (13th place) by one pin and ultimately finishing in the 21st position and the third-highest-finishing American, and the youngest to make the cut. The tournaments were sponsored and put on by the Scottish Tenpin Bowling Federation.
