AQ Bowling Opens Season With Pair of Fifth Places at Dirty Bird Classic


MEN’S RESULTS | WOMEN’S RESULTS

Jackson, Mich. — The Aquinas bowling teams kicked off the 2023-24 season with both squads competing at the Dirty Bird Classic on Saturday (Sept. 23) at JAX 60 in Jackson, Mich. The final result was the same for each program with the men and women both finishing fifth out 11 teams and bowing out in the semifinals of the match play portion of the tournament.

The teams final scores were determined by three individual series of games and five sets of baker games.

The Saints competed with 14 underclassmen (eight men, six women) out of 21 bowlers.

MEN

The Saints knocked down 6,578 pins to finish inside the Top 5. Hosts Concordia took home the win with 7,115 pins, followed by Lawrence Tech (7,068), Spring Arbor (6,922) and Madonna (6,578).

Aquinas fielded a varsity and junior varsity squad at the event.

Here is how everyone performed individually:

 

In the baker games, AQ put together totals of 716, 782, 723, 767 and 960.

Aquinas was defeated by eventual champions Concordia in the match play semifinals, 2-0.

WOMEN

AQ toppled 5,764 pins to slot into fifth place overall. Spring Arbor ran away with competition with 6,419 pins with hosts Concordia (6,147), Lourdes (5,978) and Lawrence Tech (5,906) unable to chase them down.

Aquinas only fielded a varsity squad at the event.

In the baker games, AQ put together totals of 648, 649, 677, 713 and 648.

Aquinas was defeated by eventual champions Spring Arbor in the match play semifinals, 2-0.

Both squads are back in action next Saturday (Sept. 30) at the Warrior Classic hosted by Rochester. The event will be held at the Richfield Lanes in Flint, Mich.
