A-State Bowling Leads Penguin Classic After Five Baker Matches


STRUTHERS, Ohio (10/13/23) – Opening its 2023-24 season, the Arkansas State bowling team leads 13 teams in total pinfall with 5,175 pins after five Baker matches at the Penguin Classic hosted by Youngstown State.

A-State (4-0) won its four head-to-head matches Friday and average 207 pins. The Red Wolves lead Youngstown State (5,105) by 70 pins with Nebraska (4,947), Valparaiso (4,828) and Duquesne (4,745) rounding out the top five.

A 1,114-959 tally against Morgan State got the Red Wolves off to a good start. A-State followed with a 1,013-1,001 margin against Lewis and a 984-944 victory against Wright State. In the last head-to-head Baker match of day one, the Red Wolves topped Saint Francis 1,003-916. A-State totaled 1,061 pins in Baker match five. A game four total of 257 against Morgan State marked the Red Wolves top game of the day and A-State totaled 14 of 20 games with 200-plus pins.

The Red Wolves face Bryant, Mercyhurst, Duquesne, Valparaiso and Niagara in traditional matches beginning at 8:25 a.m. (CT) Saturday. A live stream of each match can be found on A-State Bowling’s YouTube page.
