Lady Hornets pick up a pair of wins in season-opening tournament


HANRAHAN, La. | Alabama State opened the 2023-24 campaign with a pair of wins at the 2023 Colonial Classic hosted by Tulane on Friday.
 

Alabama State (2-3) opened the season with a resounding 184-pin win over Jackson State, defeating the Tigers 984-800 in Baker play. They followed that match up with a 933-895 victory over in-state foe Alabama A&M.
 
The Lady Hornets fell to a pair of ranked opponents in their next two matches, falling to No. 22 and host Tulane 994-908, before dropping just a nine-pin match to No. 8 Sam Houston 909-900. They closed the opening day of the tournament falling to Oklahoma Christian 1,065-890.

Alabama State returns to action Saturday in traditional play against No. 10 Louisiana Tech. The Lady Hornets will also face Texas Southern, No. 5 Stephen F. Austin, Southern, and No. 12 UMES.
