KENOSHA, Wis. (11/11/23) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team rolled 5,230 pins in traditional matches Saturday at the Ladyjack Classic to climb to third among 16 teams with 10,278 pins after 10 matches in the three-day event.
A-State (28-8) went 3-2 on the day to improve to 7-3 for the event. The Red Wolves topped No. 14 McKendree 1,097-884 to begin the day and responded to losses against No. 3 Nebraska (1068-902) and No. 1 Vanderbilt (1119-1086) with wins over No. 20 Wisconsin-Whitewater (1048-832) and Lewis (1097-878) to close out the day.
Karli VanDuinen paced A-State with 1,137 pins over the five traditional matches to rank second among the 108 bowlers. She started the day with 278 against McKendree and added games above 200 three more times to finish with an average of 227.4. Maggie Thoma downed 1,064 pins and Emma Stull rolled 1,032 to help the Red Wolves down 5,230 on the day.
A-State is third in total pinfall with 10,278 pins for an average of 205.6. Jacksonville State leads with 10,599 (212.0) with Nebraska second with 10,368 (207.4). Vanderbilt is third with 10,181 (203.6) and Youngstown State fifth with 10,139 (202.8).
The Red Wolves meet Vanderbilt in a Baker best-of-seven match to open bracket play Sunday. The winner meets the loser between Jacksonville State and Nebraska in the second round.
