A-State Improves to 10-0 at Northeast Classic


NEW CASTLE, Del. (1/20/23) – After opening the Northeast Classic 5-0 on Friday, the sixth-ranked Arkansas State women’s bowling team improved to 10-0 at the event with a 5-0 record in traditional matches Saturday.

A-State (39-10) earned victories over Niagara (1,028-917), Norfolk State (1,016-897), Saint Francis (1,029-908), Long Island (1,001-932) and Merrimack (1,060-986). The Red Wolves totaled 5,134 pins in traditional play, seventh-most among the 34-team field.

The Red Wolves enter the final day of the event in sixth with a total pinfall of 10,208 (204.2), 186 pins shy of Tulane (10,394) for fifth. Jacksonville State leads the field with 10,664 total pins with North Carolina A&T (10,657), Youngstown State (10,591) and Nebraska (10,435) comprising the top four.

Brooklyn Buchanan paced A-State with 1,059 pins for an average of 211.8. She rolled three games over 200, including a high of 256 against Norfolk State. Karli VanDuinen downed 1,053 pins (210.6) with three games of 200-plus, including a high of 236 against Niagara. Faith Welch rolled 1,002 pins (200.4) and had the high game of the day for A-State with a 258 against Merrimack. Malaya Chavez bowled four games and downed 883 pins (220.8), Maggie Thoma bowled four games and rolled 589 pins (196.3), while Saralyne Nassberg (190), Emma Stull (170) and Aubrey Kiddle (188) bowled a game each.

Three best-of-seven Baker matches are on deck Sunday to determine the final standings.
