Women’s bowling completes weekend at Clarke Invite

DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Augustana Vikings women’s bowling team attended the Clarke Invite for a two-day contest at Cherry Lanes on Saturday, which concluded in a fifth-place finish out of eight teams.

Samantha Novak was the standout leader for Augie with a seventh-place individual finish and missed the All-Tournament award by just 25 pins. Novak’s high scores over the weekend were 204 and 198, which led Augie in filled frames as she obtained 72 percent in traditional games and 68 percent in Baker. Novak also had the highest strike percentage on the weekend with 40 percent.

Rose Klinger was the top individual in single-game score with 209, while also anchoring the team in the fifth-place position. Sarah Stevanovic scored a high of 194 and led the Vikings in single pins and makeable spares.

Cassie Kontos earned a high of 172 and rolled a striking percentage of 40 in Baker play on Sunday. Samantha Olson secured a high score of 188 and Audrey Bezella completed two games, while Augie rolled shots in 1/3 of the frames.

“Overall a solid first tournament as we look to shake the rust off as we’ve had about seven weeks off and a spotty two weeks of practice due to weather,” said coach Marty Resner, “The team was in fourth place for a vast majority of the weekend so even though we missed the cut, we still had a good return and look forward to building upon this start to have a successful second half of the season.”

The Vikings will return on Saturday, January 28 as they travel to Westmont, Ill. for the two-day D3 Central Invite at the Suburbanite Bowl.
