WESTMONT, Ill. — The Augustana Vikings women’s bowling team competed at the D3 Central Invite for a two-day tournament at the Suburbanite Bowl on Saturday, where they secured a fourth-place finish out of five teams.
Sarah Stevanovic finished second place with an average of 193.5, which is the highest placement of an individual at a tournament for the Vikings. Stevanovic led the team by closing 76 percent of her frames and collected a striking percentage of 35, which includes the 42 percent that she generated on Saturday. Stevanovic’s highest games were 209 and 238, with the 238 a new career-high and the highest on the team this season.
Samantha Olson set up the fourth-place position in Baker play getting a mark in all but a couple of her ninth frames, while Samantha Novak led the first position in Baker play closing 62 percent of her first frames and snatching a striking percentage of 39 in those frames. Rose Klinger had the second-best fill percentage on Sunday, while Cami Flores had the second-best fill percentage on Saturday with a career-high game of 189.
Cassie Kontos provided support in Baker play as she converted a team-best 75 percent on makeable spares on Sunday, while Audrey Bezella rolled a double on Saturday and rolled a few pins below average.
“Our scores and some statistical areas have seen some dips in the last two weeks, but this week saw a couple of career-high scores, and the team showed resilience and perseverance,” said coach Marty Resner. “We hope to take those experiences and continue to work hard and work together over the next month to prepare for conference play in March.”
The Vikings will be back for the two-day Flyer Classic held in Lockport, Ill. starting on Friday, February 9.
