Women’s bowling wraps up three-day Flyer Classic


Lockport, Ill. — The Augustana Vikings women’s bowling team completed the three-day Flyer Classic over the weekend where they finished 17th of 20 teams, with 10 of those teams currently in the top 20 of the national rankings. 

The Vikings battled with five of those ranked opponents during the weekend and picked up a win against No. 20 Valparaiso, shooting a season-high of 947 in the traditional format to Valparaiso’s 916. Other wins from the weekend came against fellow CCIW schools; Carroll, Carthage, and Elmhurst, with the final match being against Carthage, which was a best-of-seven contest that went all the way to game seven. The Vikings sealed the match with a definitive 222 game. With the win, Coach Marty Resner earned his 100th collegiate victory.

Delaney Walsh was the top placer for the Vikings’, finishing 39th of 124, while averaging 176.4 with highs of 193 and 190. Walsh led the team in Traditional format, closing 80 percent of her frames and striking 32 percent of the time.

Madelyn Lathrop rolled a high individual game of 204 and led the team in Baker-filled frames with 78 percent. Lathrop also secured 100 percent in single-pin spares going 12-12 in traditional play and 91.7 percent (33-36) for the entire weekend. Sarah Stevanovic bowled in every frame this weekend and grabbed a high game of 190, while Samantha Novak rolled in a 200 game this weekend. 

Rose Klinger led off for the entire weekend, starting 75 percent of the games with a mark for her team and converted 83 percent of her single-pin spares. Cassie Kontos found success in Baker play, where she struck 36 percent of the time. Samantha Olson shot 83 percent in single-pin spares, only missing two all weekend. 

Augie came out of the weekend ahead of their season averages in both Traditional and Baker formats, where they recorded five Baker games with scores of 200-plus. 

The Vikings will host the two-day Viking Classic starting on Saturday, February 17 at TBK Sports Complex in Bettendorf, Iowa.
