A-State Takes Lead Heading Into Final Day of Mid-Winter Invitational


JONESBORO, Ark. (2/17/24) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team downed 5,343 pins over five traditional games to surge to the lead ahead of bracket play at the Mid-Winter Invitational played at Hijinx Family Entertainment Center.

A-State (59-16) dropped its traditional opener against No. 6 Nebraska 955-946, but closed out the day with four victories and three of its top 10 traditional totals of the season. The Red Wolves topped No. 15 Wisconsin-Whitewater 1,104-884 with the 1,104 total ranking as the fourth most in a traditional match this season. A-State met No. 1 Jacksonville State next and posted its second-highest total this year with a 1,150-1,033 margin. Up next was a matchup with No. 2 Youngstown State and the Red Wolves edged the Penguins 1,084-1,059. A 1,059-785 victory over No. 17 Oklahoma Christian ended the day.

Emma Stull earned All-Tournament team honors rolling 1,157 pins for an average of 231.4, third-best among 115 bowlers. Stull had a high game of 265 against No. 1 Jacksonville State, the third-highest total in a traditional match by an A-State bowler this season. Four of her five games were 210-plus pins. Karli VanDuinen downed 1,112 pins (222.4) to rank eighth individually. Brooklyn Buchanan (1,086) ranked 11th, Faith Welch (1,032) ranked 17th and Saralyn Nassberg (956) ranked 41st.

A-State is atop the pinfall standings with 10,570 pins (211.4) and topped Jacksonville State by 110 pins. Vanderbilt (10,336) and Youngstown State (10,291) round out the top four in the bracket Sunday. Maryville (10,254), Nebraska (10,239), Louisiana Tech (10,053) and Sam Houston (9,920) completed the top eight teams.

A senior day presentation takes place at 7:30 a.m. Sunday ahead of bracket play at 8:00 a.m. Admission is FREE at Hijinx Family Entertainment Center.
