A-State Wins Mid-Winter Invitational for Second Title of Season


JONESBORO, Ark. (2/18/24) – Defeating No. 1 Jacksonville State and No. 5 Vanderbilt in Baker best-of-seven matches Sunday, the Arkansas State women’s bowling team won its annual Mid-Winter Invitational at Hijinx Family Entertainment Center for its second event title of the season.

A-State (62-16) wins its home event for the third time in program history and first since the 2021 event. The tournament title marks the second of the season for the Red Wolves.

In the opening bracket match, the Red Wolves met No. 1 Jacksonville State and got off to a 1-0 lead with a 234-205 margin. The two sides traded wins (191-181, 182-178, 216-145) to get to game five even at 2-2. A-State pulled out a 203-197 advantage in game five and clinched the match with a 203-190 win in game six.

The Red Wolves played Grambling in the second round of bracket play and swept the match 4-0 before meeting No. 5 Vanderbilt in the championship match. Vanderbilt got off to a 2-0 lead with wins of 226-203 and 198-149. A six-pin margin of 189-183 in game four saw the Red Wolves even the match at 2-2. A-State closed out the win over Vanderbilt with a 214-180 win in game five and a 190-169 tally in game six.

A-State returns to action Feb. 23-24 in Greensboro, N.C., at the North Carolina A&T Stallings Invitational.
