Women's Bowling Heads to CIAA Event III for Regular Season Finale


BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State women’s bowling team will travel to Raleigh, N.C. for the Central Intercolleigate Athletic Association (CIAA) Event III which will be the regular season finale for the Bulldogs this weekend hosted by Shaw University. The three-day meet will take place at the Stars and Strikes Entertainment Center Friday, Mar. 15 through Sunday, Mar. 16.

On Friday, team matches will begin at 10:40 a.m. Senior recognition will take place on Saturday at 8 a.m. in which the Bulldogs will recognize senior Chalia Gray before traditional games at 9:25 a.m. Sunday will feature the Bakers round at 8:40 a.m.

Queens of the Northern Division

Bowie State is on track to claim its ninth consecutive Northern Division title with a 23-1 record against Northern Division opponents this season. The Bulldogs lone lost came against Virginia Union back on Jan. 28 (709-825) in a Baker’s Round. Currently in the division standings, Virginia Union is behind BSU at 17-7, followed by Elizabeth City State (7-17) and Virginia State (2-22).

Last Time Out

The Bulldogs (33-3) enter this weekend’s meet on a six-game winning streak after turning in a flawless 4-0 mark in the Bakers during the CIAA Round-Up last month. BSU finished the round-up with an overall record of 10-2 with the two losses coming against Fayetteville State during the traditional games. 

Gray led the opening day with a 202-game, followed by TaVera Johnson (196) and Jessica Watts (192). Johnson ranks second amongst the league with an average of 173.92, followed by Kamryn Smith (160.00) for ninth to round out the top-10 bowlers for Bowie State.

Looking Ahead

Bowie State will set eyes on the 2024 CIAA Championship which is slated to take place on Mar. 22-24 in Salem, Va at Lee-Hi Lanes. The Bulldogs finished as runner-ups a season ago, falling to Fayetteville State. BSU has won seven of the last 10 conference championships, including six-straight from 2015-2022.
