Red Wolves Second After Opening Day of Music City Classic


SMYRNA, Tenn. (3/15/24) – Beginning its final regular season event of the season, the Arkansas State women’s bowling team is second among 33 teams competing in the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt.

A-State (75-21), ranked second in the latest top-25 poll, went 4-1 on the day and totaled 5,139 pins for an average of 205.6. No. 1 Jacksonville State leads with 5,385 pins (215.4) while No. 10 Sam Houston State (5,061), No. 5 North Carolina A&T (4,988) and No. 4 Vanderbilt (4,983) round out the top five.

The Red Wolves opened with a 997-948 win over No. 13 Tulane and followed with a 1,016-954 margin against No. 21 Wisconsin-Whitewater. A-State added wins over Jackson State (1068-823) and Carroll (1024-812), but came up short in the last match of the day against No. 1 Jacksonville State (1034-1062).

A-State begins Saturday with a position round matchup and four more traditional matches against Lincoln Memorial, No. 10 Sam Houston, Kentucky Wesleyan and No. 11 Stephen F. Austin. Each match is streamed live on YouTube by searching for A-State Bowling.
