A-State Finishes Fourth at Music City Classic


SMYRNA, Tenn. (3/17/24) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team picked up wins over No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 10 Sam Houston Sunday to finish fourth at the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt.

A-State (80-24) entered bracket play in fifth and wins over No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 10 Sam Houston setup a showdown with No. 4 North Carolina A&T for third place. The Red Wolves came up short against the Aggies in the Baker best-of-seven to finish fourth among the 33 teams in the regular season finale.

Opening the day against the host Commodores, A-State picked up a 4.5-1.5 decision to move up the bracket. The Red Wolves fell behind early with Vanderbilt winning the opener 232-214, but A-State won four of the next five games to clinch the match. A-State took game two 212-172 and game three 242-222 to lead 2-1. After the two teams tied in game four at 192 pins, the Red Wolves closed out the match with a 255-204 margin in game five and 191-184 advantage in game six.

The Red Wolves swept No. 10 Sam Houston 4-0 to advance to the third-place matchup. A-State rolled over 200 pins in all four games, 204-183 in game one, 206-172 in game two, 211-183 in game three and 216-176 in game four.

A-State and North Carolina A&T split the first two games, 217-163 for the Aggies in game one and 232-189 for the Red Wolves in game two. North Carolina A&T closed out the win by winning the next three games 187-180, 236-172 and 217-198.

Ranked second in the latest NTCA Top 25 poll, A-State begins postseason play with the inaugural Conference USA Championship March 22-24 in Harahan, La.
