Bowling Faces Gauntlet of Top 25 Teams at Annual Music City Classic

Smyrna, Tenn. – In one final tune-up leading into this week’s ECC Championships, the Adelphi University women’s bowling team made its annual appearance this time of year at the Music City Classic at Smyrna Bowling Center.

A coveted tournament hosted by Vanderbilt University, the Music City Classic invited over thirty teams — almost all of whom presently crack the NTCA Top 25 rankings — to the suburban Nashville area for a three-day weekend.

The Panthers waged competition against some of the nation’s elite, including No. 1 ranked Jacksonville State University — which has won nearly 100 matches to-date this year.

Adelphi surpassed a total pinfall of 11,000 for just the second time this season and averaged a 160.0 across all thirteen matches played at the tournament.

Even with sitting out a traditional match, Tiffany Wong threw over 40.0 percent strikes in both the Baker and traditional formats. Highlighted by a pair of 200 games, Wong shot a team-leading 185.0 average in the traditional competition.

Wong also converted 87.5 percent (14-of-16) of her single-pin spares in the Baker format, with Blanca Fraticelli and Erica DeJesus following at 77.3 percent and 75.0 percent, respectively.

Giana Giampapa led off Saturday’s traditional outing for the ‘Cats with a 200, in the team’s narrowest match of the weekend. A difference of two pins put LIU over Adelphi by an 878-876 scoreline. Fellow St. Francis Brooklyn transfer Carly Wu bowled a 200 of her own in Adelphi’s only traditional victory of the weekend against Kentucky Wesleyan.

Head Coach Arthur O’Connor and the Panthers now gear up for this year’s ECC Championship, which is set to be held this weekend (Mar. 22-24) at AMF Dewey Gardens in Rochester, N.Y.
