14 Sports Post 3.0 Spring Semester GPA' To Close Strong 2023-24 Academic Year


MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University football headlined 14 sports that achieved a 3.0 or better GPA for the 2023-24 Academic Year.
 
The 3.0 team GPA marked the first time in the modern football era for Hornets football team to achieve this mark while also putting in the work in the River Region Community with 319 service hours.
 
Athletics proved its prowess in the classroom and on the field, boasting a 3.16 spring semester GPA and a 3.27 GPA for the 2023-24 Year.
 
“Our student athletes have worked hard to perform at a high academic level,” Head Coach Eddie Robinson Jr., said. “We are thankful for the academic support from the ASU faculty and staff in helping us to graduate our future leaders. Academic success and discipline off the field has an impact to success on the field.

“I want to congratulate and thank our student-athletes, coaches, and support staff for their hard work and dedication towards a record-setting year in the classroom and on the field.” Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Jason Cable said. “Our student-athletes continue to navigate each challenging semester with discipline and dedication. To say I am extremely proud of our student-athletes success in the classroom is an understatement.”

 

Women’s Tennis’ 3.71 GPA was the highest GPA for the department and topped the small team GPA.  Women’s soccer boasted a 3.59 GPA as the top large female team GPA.

 

Men’s Golf had a 3.65 GPA as top small male team GPA while baseball’s 3.26 GPA was the highest male large team GPA.  

 

The spring semester saw 41 student-athletes walk across the Dunn-Oliver Acadome State to receive degrees and 50 student-athletes were inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma.

“Our student-athletes are truly amazing,” said Dr. Genese Lavalais, Senior Associate Athletic Director & Chief of Staff/SWA. “I often tell students on their recruiting trips that they must excel as both a student and an athlete, while also actively participating in the campus community. They always rise to the challenge! I would like to express my gratitude to the faculty, support staff, and coaches for consistently holding our students to a high standard of excellence and instilling a Dominate mindset.”
