Women’s bowling 2023-24 season review


The Augustana Vikings women’s bowling team finished their seventh season with Marty Resner guiding Augie to a sixth-place finish in the CCIW in his fifth season at the helm. 

The Vikings opened their season with road trips to the Warhawk Classic in Madison, Wis., and the 5 Seasons Classic in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In their first tournament, Augie finished sixth out of eight teams to place ahead of two CCIW teams and improved traditional and Baker team averages from last season. In Iowa, Augustana finished sixth out of 14 teams, where Rose Klinger set a new single-event record by striking 51.1 percent of the time. Augie set another record in Baker play with an average of 182.6 before tying their record for clean games in Baker format for a single event, recording three cleans. 

The team then returned to the Quad Cities for the Western Illinois Leatherneck Classic, where Samantha Olson rolled her first collegiate 200-plus game and her first collegiate clean game. Following the Classic, the Vikings obtained fourth at the opening CCIW tournament in Waukesha, Wis. with a 4-3 record. 

Augie continued with a fifth-place finish at the two-day Clarke Invitational in Dubuque, Iowa. Samantha Novak was the standout leader for Augie with a seventh-place individual finish and missed the All-Tournament award by just 25 pins. The next weekend, the Vikings traveled to Westmont, Ill., where they finished fourth at the D3 Central Invite. Sarah Stevanovic finished in second place with an average of 193.5, which was the highest placement of an individual at a tournament for Augie. 

Before returning home, the team competed at the three-day Flyer Classic in Lockport, Ill., where the Vikings battled five nationally ranked teams. The final match at this event sealed Coach Resner’s 100th collegiate victory and the team bested season averages in traditional and Baker format, recording five Baker games with scores of 200-plus. 

Augustana hosted the Viking Classic in mid-February and set a new record in Baker format with 25 games totaling 4447 points and a 63-pin increase. The team posted two clean Baker games to bring the total to eight on the season, one shy of the season record.
